The hutch (or dresser as it is known in the UK) is one of the most well-loved and widely available units for storing flatware, table linen and tableware. Traditionally a hutch features a dresser-style base with cupboards and drawers and either open shelves or glazed cupboards above. Our wall units and dressers are all made from premium grade hardwoods such as oak and mango and are available in a huge variety of styles and finishes.

Traditionally, a hutch is defined as a piece of wooden furniture consisting of a standard base of drawers and cupboards with open shelving above. The traditional Welsh dresser was developed in England during the Jacobean era and was then most commonly made of oak. Originally a purely utilitarian item - used for storing tableware and preparing food, the hutch is now more often used as a mixture of display unit and storage solution.

The upper shelves are ideal for showing off the best china whilst any other items can be tidied away easily into the base of the sideboard. The most popular material used to make any free-standing kitchen furniture is wood, and hardwoods such as oak beat cheaper softwoods like pine in strength, durability and quality of grain and appearance. Due to the often substantial size of hutches, it's important to invest in something that's as stunning as it is spacious.

Solid oak lends itself well to any interior and will complement a variety of different d├ęcors. Available in a variety of finishes, from naturally hand-waxed to painted, hardwood crafted hutches are the best choice if longevity of use and of style is important to you.

The style of the hutch has been adapted and changed in many different ways since the original design. Most typically found in a traditional, rustic style, we stock contemporary hutches with sleek lines and brushed metal handles, Japanese inspired striking bow-topped hutches and a plethora of other styles, ranging from super simple to beautifully ornate. It may be a classic item, but there's a hutch available for every style of living space, traditional or modern.
